Selling Antiques For anyone interested in selling antiques, be warned, this is difficult work. The same tips for buying antiques apply to sellers but are in some cases even more important. Remember, if you’re selling antiques this is your livelihood. Each piece is an investment in your future. First and most important, learn your trade. Go to stores, shows, read books, and talk to other dealers. Selling antiques is a fun and rewarding venture if done right. Make sure to do your research. The next step to selling antiques is finding your niche. Although in some cases you can get away with selling all varieties of antiques most dealers specialize in one type like furniture, or small objects, or lighting. Whatever your interest area, learn it and own it. Most important for selling antiques is finding the places for buying and the places for selling. In most cases, there are shows in the countryside and auctions that are great for buying. These pieces are then brought to the city shows for selling at a higher profit. There are plenty of friends to be made, and plenty of money to be made selling antiques. Make sure that you learn where to go, who to talk to, and what pieces are real, valuable, and desirable. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to invest in a truck, some storage space, and the associated tools like a hand truck, blankets, and straps to make sure that nothing is damaged in transit. A chip or break could mean a loss of thousands. |
