Historical Architectural Information

The origins of architecture arose out of the need for shelter and the availability of building materials and capabilities. Historical architecture began with functional buildings of a rural design and functionality. As new architectural information and materials emerged surpluses of building were erected giving rise to urban development.

Historical architectural information indicates that some cultures like the Egyptians focused on the incorporation of divinity in their structures. On the contrary in Middle Eastern cultures urban architecture arose to signify the power of the state. It wasn’t until Europe’s renaissance that the focus of architecture turned to the individual where designs were ascribed to particular artists.

The passing of historical architectural information from generation to generation began by word of mouth and continued that way up until the time of the Greeks and Romans when volumes were recorded to provide more effective communication and a need became a science. In the 19th century the focus of architecture was no longer solely on technical specifications as much had already been proven effective, and aesthetics became the major focus of structures allowing architectural freedom once again.

From the industrial revolution to the mid 1900’s historical architectural information was put aside for increased production, stronger materials, and more functional purpose. Machine made components increased production, strength, and functionality and classical décor was put to the side. The mid to late 1900’s saw a return to the beauty and intricacy of historical architectural structures.
