General Architecture Information The term architecture refers to the design and construction of buildings and structures. There are two main schools of architecture, aesthetic and engineering or applied science. Aesthetic architecture places its focus on manipulation of light, color, texture, space, and other elements to emphasize natural and constructed features to be pleasing to the senses. Applied science or engineering architecture refers to the usability of a building or structure emphasizing the features, applications, and functionality of the structure and its elements. Historical Architectural Information Architecture has a long and diverse history dating back to the earliest uses of tools. Structures originated out of purely functional needs and from there expanded to representations of culture and self. Architectural building styles are as diverse as the cultures of the world that created them from Greek and Roman to Rural and modern Metro these styles exemplify the beliefs, needs, wants, and desires of the originating culture or architect. Architectural Structural Elements There are a number of variations of each architectural element including arches, columns, doors, floors, and walls. Each helps to represent the full glory of the structure. National Architecture Organizations There are a number of architectural organizations to help collect and guide the ideals of a growing number of architects worldwide. Most of these are national organizations helping to keep culture rich and styles diverse. |
