Finding Business Investors

Whether your business has not yet been established or is new and growing one of the toughest things to accomplish is finding business investors. There are a number of sources available for venture capital. The main things to look for are angels, strategic partners, employee stock ownership plans, leasing, bridge capital, venture capital, and private placement.

Finding business investors may be accomplished from outside your organization from angels, bridge capital, venture capital, and private placement. The important thing to understand about these methods is that in most cases the financing is temporary and the individuals or organizations that invest will be looking to realize returns, possibly before you’re ready to provide them. Make sure that you have a solid plan for your organization first.

Another way of finding business investors is from within the company itself utilizing strategic partners and employee stock ownership plans. Strategic partners can bring talent, technology, and finance to the table. Employee stock purchase plans allow employees to help fund the organization, take the weight off of you, and provide incentive for company loyalty and responsibility.

In some cases buying smarter will help negate the need for finding business investors. This can be done by leasing space and equipment instead of buying. By leasing it is possible to utilize space and tools without the upfront capital normally required to purchase. This leaves more available for operating budgets.
